Skilled Worker Visa UK

The UK's main sponsored route for overseas workers with a job offer from a licensed employer. We guide you through eligibility, the points system and your application.

The Skilled Worker Visa is the UK's principal work route, allowing an approved employer to sponsor an overseas national for an eligible job. It forms part of the points-based system and can lead to settlement.

Eligibility

You need a confirmed job offer from a licensed sponsor, a role at the required skill level, a salary meeting the relevant threshold, and English language ability. Together these must reach the required points total.

The points system

You need 70 points. Fifty are mandatory (sponsorship, skill level and English), and the final 20 are tradeable through salary or other attributes such as a relevant PhD or a shortage occupation.

How to apply

  • Receive your Certificate of Sponsorship from your employer.
  • Complete the online application and pay the fee and Immigration Health Surcharge.
  • Verify your identity and submit supporting documents.
  • Await the Home Office decision.

Family and settlement

Most holders can bring dependants and, after a qualifying period of continuous residence, apply for indefinite leave to remain.
